The second[1] major benefit of adopting white-boxes is they can be managed by 3rd-party applications. When SDN adoption in transport network started, not many powerful commercial vendors invested in multi-vendor management[2], but with time it is getting traction. The main reason is that the largest and influential service providers are pushing this; thus, relevant solutions are getting financed, grow, mature. With time these offerings are becoming larger threat for lagging vendors’, who are forced to catch up. It is expected that in 2018 multi-vendor transport SDN capabilities will be ready for production.
